Andrea S. Overcame A Spinal Injury And Is Now Back To Running In Races!

"I had a pretty invasive spine surgery in February 2017 when I was 33. Prior to that I was a pretty avid runner for about 6 years. I was told I wouldn’t be able to run the “crazy” races I loved anymore. I asked my surgeon what I needed to do to be able to run with my team in my June 2017 Ragnar, a 200 mile relay race. He told me that I was crazy but if I wanted to try Physical Therapy was a must for 12 weeks. I met with Chris the first week in March and committed to 2 sessions a week with him and daily exercises on my own that he taught me. I started out slow as I still had sutures in my back but with Chris’s time and attention I was able to get stronger rather quickly. After my 12 weeks of PT, I was not only able to run my 30 miles of the 200 mile race with my team, I actually made a personal record of 9:20/mile. I was ecstatic to get under 10 minute miles something I never thought I could do. It’s now 2 years later and I’m still running my “crazy” races and I still use the exercises Chris taught me daily in order to keep my back strong and my body able to keep on running"
